Lisa A. Conway, MSW is a mental health advocate, author, and former medical social worker whose work centers on ethical mental health care, patient advocacy, and lived-experience recovery. After years working in the medical field, Lisa now focuses on raising awareness about the importance of transparency, informed consent, and patient-centered care in mental health treatment, especially with regard to Shock Therapy.
As an ECT survivor who underwent more than one hundred electroconvulsive therapy treatments, Lisa speaks openly about the long-term impact of psychiatric interventions and the importance of listening to patient voices. She is the author of Shocked, a powerful memoir that explores mental illness, the mental health system, and the journey from trauma to advocacy.
Through writing, speaking, and advocacy, Lisa works to reduce stigma while encouraging honest conversations about mental health care, recovery, and the need for compassionate, ethical treatment practices.
Lisa enjoys running with her Service Dog, Teddy, writing, and communicating with people from different countries. Writing her book has introduced her to people from South Africa, Pakistan, Finland, Australia and more. She has close family in Rome and keeps in regular contact with them.
