I was born and raised in Southern Indiana, where my journey with music began at the age of four when I started playing the piano by ear. This early introduction sparked a lifelong passion that has profoundly shaped my identity. Although music remains close to my heart, I now play less frequently due to the demands of daily life and personal challenges.
I have been happily married to my wife, Sheila, for 26 years. While we had hoped to grow our family and spent several years pursuing adoption, we ultimately chose to focus on cherishing the life we’ve built together.
Throughout my life, I’ve been driven by a strong competitive spirit and a desire to face challenges head-on. Inspired by figures like Buddy Valastro, best known as the Cake Boss, I pursued cake decorating at an advanced level with aspirations of opening my own bakery. However, after sustaining a traumatic brain injury, I was forced to step away from that dream, as the high-stress nature and complexity of the work became unsustainable.
In the wake of this life-altering event, I spent three years seeking purpose through my pain. I created Life Rewired: The Brain Injury Podcast—a platform dedicated to raising awareness of brain injuries, a topic often overlooked in society. Through the podcast, I engage in meaningful conversations with survivors, caregivers, and professionals to share hope and foster community. Additionally, I launched an online support group that has grown to over 2,000 members.
In January, I became a first-time author with the release of my book, My Life Rewired, which chronicles my journey of healing from a traumatic brain injury and other significant life traumas. I consider this work—and the broader mission of spreading joy and inspiration to others—my true calling. Colleagues often say I could pursue a career in comedy due to my quick wit and natural ability to make others laugh. For me, bringing light and laughter to someone’s day is more than just gratifying—it is the fulfillment of my life’s purpose.
