Lonna Gibson on Turning Vision Into Lasting Impact | 1,555

Lonna Gibson knows what it means to carry a mission forward when everything is on the line.

At just 26 years old, she became the first employee of Challenge Air, a groundbreaking nonprofit founded by a Vietnam veteran determined to show children with disabilities that their limitations did not define them. When the organization's founder passed away only months later, Lonna was faced with a decision that would shape the rest of her career: step away or step up.

She stepped up.

Over the following years, she transformed Challenge Air from a small regional effort into a nationally recognized organization operating in 38 states, building partnerships with major brands including Southwest Airlines, Boeing, Xerox, and Pillsbury. Along the way, she learned firsthand how to lead through uncertainty, scale a vision, build sustainable systems, and honor a mission larger than herself.

Today, as the founder of Seven & Associates, Lonna helps founders, executives, nonprofit leaders, and boards move beyond reactive leadership and build organizations with clarity, structure, and long-term impact. Her expertise spans strategic growth, fundraising systems, StoryBrand messaging, and leadership development, but at its core, her work is about helping leaders create something that lasts.

What sets Lonna apart is that she has lived the challenges her clients face. She understands the weight of responsibility, the complexity of growth, and the importance of building organizations that can thrive beyond the founder.

Her message is simple: great leadership is not about doing more. It is about building something strong enough to endure.

Founder & CEO

At 26, Lonna Gibson stepped into what would become the defining foundation of her career.

She was asked to join Rick Amber, a solopreneur with a bold mission — a Naval Academy graduate who had lost the use of his legs in Vietnam and was determined to inspire children with disabilities through the gift of flight. As Marketing Director and his first hire, she helped build Challenge Air and its signature Fly Day events, where children with disabilities experienced a day as a co-pilot alongside volunteer wheelchair pilots.

What began as a job quickly became something far more formative. Shortly after she joined, Rick was diagnosed with cancer. Eight months later, he was gone, leaving Lonna to carry forward the organization he had built from the ground up.

That moment didn’t just shape her; it established the lens through which she would lead for the rest of her career.

She earned her pilot’s license and went on to scale Challenge Air from four states to 38, building national partnerships with organizations like Southwest Airlines, Boeing, Xerox, and Pillsbury. But more importantly, she learned firsthand what it takes to lead under pressure, steward a mission, and build systems that outlast a founder.

Those years became the bedrock of her approach to leadership, strategy, and growth.

In 2005, she founded Seven & Associates. For nearly 30 years, she has served as a strategic growth partner to founders, executives, and boards ready to move from reacting to leading, specializing in fundraising systems, StoryBrand messaging,…Read More
