Christopher Kaufman is an author, composer, concert presenter, illustrative artist and performer. He started creating imaginative fantasy books with illustrative art at the age of nine. During high school years he found music and attended The New Orleans Center for The Creative Arts and went on to major in music composition in college. He earned his DMA in music composition at Cornell University where he studied with Pulitzer Prize Winning composers who have prized his abilities as a composer.
His stories never left him. He finished his schooling phase with advanced degrees in music, but also the full event structure for his classic epic fantasy series Tales Of The Ocean City in his mind - through book eight which he is presently completing.
The Tales Of The Ocean City series exists now as graphically illustrated physical books and go-with audio albums filled with with cinematic symphonic music, narration and sound design. Now as well - there are the video book versions which put it all together. He performs live tours with the music pouring through speakers, live narration and the pages streaming on screen - a true immersive multi-media experience.
Christopher often speaks about ‘The Transformative Power of Imagination’ as a topic for podcasts and the like. In this he focuses on how living with imagination can greatly enhance our experience of life - especially as demonstrated in the fine arts and the great fantasy stories.
He maintains a career as a composer for the concert stage with a full body of work, from solo pieces and chamber pieces thru orchestral works. His oeuvre includes ‘environmental works’ which feature soundscapes crafted from hundreds of natural sounds, live musicians (from soloists, chamber groups and to full orchestra), videos filled with both natural and artistic images and readings from the works of John Muir and others.
As a concert presenter he founded and maintains two concert series’. One, CHIRON Performing Arts, is for an adult audience, the other, The Phantastic Theater - new music and art for people of all ages all at once - is Kaufman’s ‘arts education’ branch - where he presents new music and art in highly creative ways and has created a number of family-based theatrical works he calls ‘music plays’ which feature imaginative stories, symphonic music flowing through speakers, performance videos filled with illustrative art streaming on screens behind the performers (often acting as scenery and with interactive characters), live acting, dance and puppetry. All of these works; The Musical Forest, The Phantastic Zoo and Dancing Night Hawk are available as physical books with audio albums and films created from live shows.
All of these works are available at kaufmantales.com.
