Tammy Powder
I am Tammy Powder, a Canadian author, mama, public speaker, certified Peer Support Worker and Facilitator, certified meditation teacher, and I am trained in children's mindfulness and anxiety tools. At the heart of everything I create is a desire to help people feel less alone, more understood and better equipped to navigate some of the harder parts of life.
I am the author of the Bella Series, beginning with 'Bella and the Bossy Driver' and followed by my newest children's book, 'Bella and the Powerful 5'. The series was inspired by my own experiences as a mother and my passion for giving children practical, easy to understand tools for anxiety, worry and big emotions. Rather than simply telling children not to worry, my books help them understand what is happening inside of them and give them strategies they can actually use. I have also developed an interactive workshop around Bella and the Bossy Driver that I bring into schools and community settings, allowing me to connect directly with children, teachers, caregivers and families.
My newest book, 'Mamas Need Love and Compassion Too: Giving Light Through Stories That Inspire Connection and Resilience', is a very different book, but it comes from the same place in my heart. It brings together real stories from mothers who bravely share some of the difficult, complicated and beautiful realities of motherhood. Each story offers connection, encouragement and personal insights into self care. The book reminds mothers that while so much of their lives can be spent caring for everyone around them, they also need and deserve compassion, understanding and care.
My background in Peer Support, facilitation, meditation and children's mindfulness has had a significant influence on my writing and the way I connect with readers. I do not want to simply sell someone a book. I want to create conversations. Whether I am talking with a child about their "Bossy Driver," a caregiver looking for ways to support an anxious child, or a mother who recognizes herself in one of the stories in Mamas Need Love and Compassion Too, those personal connections are one of my favorite parts of being an author.
My goal as an author is to continue growing the Bella Series and its accompanying educational resources and workshops, while also bringing Mamas Need Love and Compassion Too to mothers everywhere. I hope to build a legacy of writing that is known for being inspiring, compassionate and useful, while always creating connection between the reader and the words on the page.
